Scholarships

KCC PTA awards a minimum of 4 monetary scholarships to graduating seniors pursuing post-secondary education and/or training. These range in value from $400-$800 and are awarded each academic year. All scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, merit and financial need.

Scholarship recipients will be recognized through various forms of public and social media.

 

Completed scholarship applications and accompanying materials should be submitted no later than April 23. Learn more about these scholarships below.

KCC PTA Scholarship

  • Applications are only accepted from students of Knox County Schools High Schools
  • Applicants may receive other scholarships in addition to the Knox County Council PTA scholarship.

 

All qualified applicants will be judged based upon the following criteria:

  • Need for financial aid
  • Academic qualifications
  • Demonstration of merit
  • Essay written by the applicant as to post-secondary plans and how this scholarship will help him/her  reach those goals
  • Completed application and reference Forms
  • Provide a statement of financial need
  • Provide a transcript of grades
  • Recipients must enroll by the first semester (or quarter) of the 2022-2023 school year. Recipients failing to meet enrollment will forfeit their scholarship. The scholarship will then be awarded to an alternate.
  • Scholarships will be given to students attending an accredited school or college of their choice.
  • The Knox County Council PTA Treasurer will forward the recipients’ checks to the schools or colleges in time for registration. Money will not be given directly to students.
  • Recipients failing to fulfill their duties will forfeit their scholarship. The scholarship will then be awarded to an alternate.

This scholarship application and materials must be complete and submitted by April 23. References must submit online reference forms by April 30.

Scholarship recipients will be notified by May 15.

The application process will be completed in three easy steps:

  1. Ensure you have the following before beginning the application:
    1. High school transcript from school office
    2. Two reference names and email addresses (principal, assistant principal, guidance counselor, or teacher). Reference forms will be completed online. Therefore, you must have this information available before beginning the application.
    3. Personal essay (In a separate document, either type (double spaced) or neatly write your personal essay explaining why you think you are a good candidate for this scholarship. Please do not exceed one page.)
    4. Statement of financial need

  3. Your references will receive an email that will direct them to complete the online reference form upon submission of your application. They will have until March 28 to submit the reference form.

Jablonski Family Educational Needs Scholarship

The Jablonski Family Educational Needs Scholarship is a Knox County Council PTA Scholarship for students with disabilities who are entering post-secondary opportunities. This Scholarship is given in recognition of the Jablonski Family`s efforts and advocacy for individuals coping with the challenges of disabilities. The scholarship’s function is to help reduce the barriers of education advancement and completion by providing the necessary skills for youth with disabilities. The goal of the scholarship is to help enable young people the opportunity to become active participants in their communities.

This one-time scholarship will range in value from $500 to $800 and will be awarded to Knox County graduating high school seniors with a documented disability who will be enrolled in a university, two- year community college, vocational/technical training program, or a specialized program for students with disabilities in the fall. These students may obtain assistance in submitting application and writing their personal essay.

The ideal candidate is a student:

  • whose disability is characterized by significant limitations in both intellectual functioning and adaptive behavior who has received special education services through Knox County School District and will continue to need support services in post-secondary education.
  • who demonstrates financial need.
  • Essay written by either the applicant or guardian as to post-secondary plans and how this scholarship will help them reach those goals
  • Completed Application and Reference Forms
  • Provide most current documentation of their specific disability
  • Provide a statement of financial need
